Upon a painted ocean.

Sadly, a friend of many in Norfolk and an acquaintance of mine has died of cancer. Grandfather-of-two Lewis Davies, who died last Monday after a short battle with cancer, leaves behind a formidable body of work, including 52 large paintings depicting scenes from Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. He would present the work locally as a slide-show and poetry recital.

Hilary, his wife, a stained glass artist, said: “He got really fanatical about his work. Once he got a bee in his bonnet about it, he would work on a project for ages. He was inspired by the Ancient Mariner because it was full of imagery and every verse he could illustrate.”

After retiring to Cromer, in Norfolk with his wife seven years ago, Lewis continued painting and was inspired the countryside and churches and exhibited in various galleries. Hilary says their home is still filled with stacks of paintings including works in progress, and though Lewis reluctantly sold one of the Ancient Mariner paintings, she still has the remaining 51.

Shops and shunts

Waitrose 1 - Tesco 0. Tesco will apply again and again and again. We will end up with Waitrose and Tesco. Waitco Tesrose - all the same really. I am so fed up with the whole damn thing. We've got Sainsland and Icebury's so why not add Lidi and Aldl? Then we can all go shopping mad.

I would like to say a huge thank you North Norfolk Railway for the mess you're making at the roundabout with the traffic lights. Some twat almost wrote my car off yesterday by jumping the lights.

Write to President Obama to stop the slaughter of wolves

Urge President Obama to end the wolf slaughter

Hundreds of wolves have been killed in the northern Rockies since the Obama administration approved the Bush administration’s wrongheaded plan to prematurely eliminate federal protections for these magnificent animals -- more than 230 have been killed during wolf hunts that began in September and continue in Idaho even now.

Idaho has already extended its hunting season, putting even more wolf families in the crosshairs even pregnant wolf mothers due to give birth this spring.

President Obama can and should fix his administration’s horrible mistake. Please write to him or email him. His details can easily be found on the net. Also there are many petitions which can be signed on-line...just google...killing of wolves in Idaho
