Self Portrait Two

From Claire about Self Portrait One
Love the perspective...particularly like the right hand side of the painting, it could almost be two paintings if you divided it. I love the movement of your hair on the right especially.
Despite the fact that the painting is very simplistic in it's execution I think art always comes back to the feelings/emotional response a piece brings up in the viewer.
In the case of your pictures the energy within them speaks volumes - for instance, in this painting I feel bliss, warmth, contentedness - it matters not that it is not anatomically correct or proportionate or all the other things that defines if something is good or not.
The expression in this piece of art is wonderfully obvious. I love the pieces you produce which seem to have endless amounts of spontaneous energy - when you are not trying, just feeling and expressing.
That isn't to say that I don't like your butterflies, I thought they were beautiful, but and please don't take this as a criticism, they were too precise in many ways, very nicely drawn, wonderful attention to detail but they lacked your energy, that vibrant, bouncing, infectious energy that lives inside you.
I think this is a terrific new path you are taking and a way to express that volcano inside you even if sometimes your actual 'physical' energy doesn't match your internal, spiritual, emotional energy. Keep it flowing - don't try - just do, enjoy it, let your crayons, paint brush, pastels, charcoal be the expressive you...can't wait to see next one.
Art Group tonight - maybe I will be brave and color it in!
