Apart from its justly-famous Roman ruins, the centre of Orange isn't particularly picturesque an understatement - it is in a real state) . It's pleasant though, and the centre is compact with narrow streets and small squares lined with shops, restaurants and terrace cafés, and the glorious large shady plane trees.
